Why Do I Use Natural Deodorant?

I’m often asked why I use natural deodorant especially when it can feel so different from what we’re used to in my experience they work particularly well  for those with sensitive skin or looking for a gentler approach

Natural Deodorant for Women

Regular vs Natural deodorants is a tricky subject.

From scaremongering about cancer and Alzheimer's to the waste and sickly fumes (anyone remember your classroom or changing room after P.E. class 🤢) of antiperspirant sprays, it's very difficult to make a decision about what type is right for you.

I’m often asked why I choose to use natural deodorant, especially when it can feel so different to what we’re used to. This is just my take on why I use a natural deodorant hopefully it might make it easier for you to make this very personal decision…

My Journey with Sensitive Skin

You may or may not know that I have always suffered with sensitive skin. Spray deodorants have always been a no go for me as it would cause redness and irritation. If you also struggle with sensitive skin conditions like rosacea, choosing gentle, natural products is essential.

Also growing up with an eco conscious mind from a young age, hearing about the hole in the ozone layer and being told the CFC's from aerosols contributed I stayed well away from the usual teen deodorants.

I have always for these reasons used a roll on deodorant. However the packaging that roll on deodorant uses are very difficult to recycle. This leads to a whole other host of issues.

Why Your Body Needs to Sweat

During my degree in Physiology I learned about another very important reason why natural deodorants are better for you. Your body needs to sweat. This natural process removes waste products from the body and helps with temperature regulation.

Antiperspirants by their very name means they stop you from sweating. They use Aluminium salts to block your pores and stop this important process. If you're curious about what's really in conventional deodorants and how they're rated, check out what the Yuka app reveals about deodorant ingredients. These two very important functions still happen when you use our natural deodorant Ireland as aluminium is not an ingredient we use.

However just because we need to sweat doesn't mean we need to smell!

Understanding Body Odour

Sweat doesn't cause you to smell. Body odour (B.O.) is caused by bacteria when they feed on your sweat.

Our best natural deodorant for sensitive skin has layers of different ingredients to help you to stay smelling fresh for up to 48 hours.

Our deodorants contain Lemongrass and Lemonbalm infused coconut oil, Lavender and calendula infused apricot kernel oil, non nano zinc oxide and bicarbonate of soda. All these anti microbial ingredients will keep your pits fresh by reducing the numbers of bacteria present.

We also include Arrowroot powder to absorb excess moisture to keep your pits and clothes dry.

Our natural deodorant will keep your armpits in tip top condition. Shea butter to moisturise and beeswax will help your skin stay soft.

All Natural Ingredients

Choose your scent, a fruity blend of Grapefruit, Lemongrass and Lavender or a lightly scented herb garden with Rosemary, Teatree and Lavender.

Our eco-friendly deodorant packaging is compostable, from the cardboard push up tube and it's plant based waterproof liner to the paper label. Once you are finished just add it to your compost bin. Learn more about our commitment to sustainable packaging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does natural deodorant really work?

Yes! Our natural deodorant uses antimicrobial ingredients like lemongrass, tea tree, and zinc oxide to reduce odour-causing bacteria while allowing your body to sweat naturally. Unlike conventional antiperspirants that block your pores, our formula works with your body's natural processes.

Will I smell during the transition to natural deodorant?

Some people experience a detox period of 1-2 weeks as your body adjusts. This is normal and temporary as your pores clear out aluminium residue from conventional deodorants. During this time, you may notice increased sweating or odour, but this will pass as your body rebalances.

Is natural deodorant safe for sensitive skin?

Our aluminium-free deodorant Ireland is formulated specifically for sensitive skin, free from aluminium, alcohol, parabens, and synthetic chemicals that can cause irritation. The natural ingredients like shea butter and calendula-infused oils actually nourish and soothe sensitive skin.

How long does natural deodorant last?

Our natural deodorant provides up to 48 hours of freshness. One stick typically lasts 3-4 months with daily use, making it both effective and economical.

Is your deodorant packaging really compostable?

Yes! Our zero waste deodorant comes in a fully compostable cardboard push-up tube with a plant-based waterproof liner and paper label. Simply add it to your compost bin when finished - no plastic waste!
